National Audubon’s 118th Winter Bird Count
The potluck supper* and countdown will be held the following TUESDAY EVENING January 2 in Sudbury Valley Trustees’ Wolbach farmhouse. Doors open at 6:30. We have room for 40 which makes space for about 22 guests in addition to essential personnel. Entrées, salads, desserts, and drinks are needed. Our event will be postponed if severe weather makes driving and parking impossible. Check this page for an update.
And now a few words about our (non) commercial sponsor, Sudbury Valley Trustees, a regional land trust that owns and actively stewards seventy properties totaling over 2,300 acres in permanent conservation that provide vital habitat for birds and other animal and plant communities. The Christmas Bird Count is owned and operated by National Audubon Society in partnership with Bird Studies Canada, the North American Breeding Bird Survey, and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. Veteran field participants remember when they actually had to pay to participate. Joining the the count is free but it still needs your contributions. Please consider a donation to the CBC to support the science and the welfare of our North American birds. Follow the Audubon heron logo below.
So here’s to the best in winter birding. We hope to see you afield or watching your feeders from frosty windowpanes last week of December!
